Dear Reader, Every major technology wave seems to have its material.
Now AI is creating an opportunity for another material. Not just for more chips, but for systems capable of handling the enormous heat those chips generate. That is why a tiny under-$2 company quietly building around graphene is starting to grab attention. Graphene is a one-atom material known for handling heat extraordinarily well. For years, it lived mostly inside research papers and "future technology" headlines because commercialization proved difficult. Now this under-$2 company already has graphene products moving through real distribution channels. Its thermal coating is approved for sale in the U.S. through the EPA. It has HVAC distribution through Nu-Calgon. A refrigeration rollout with Beijer Ref. And a joint development agreement with Rio Tinto. That makes this story feel very different from the old graphene hype cycle, especially as the AI hype is creating new markets. Silicon helped build the first digital revolution. This tiny material may play a role in the next one. See why investors are starting to revisit the graphene story > |

Today’s Top 10 Highest-Rated Small Caps on AltIndex
Most people only ever see AltIndex's AI score aimed at the giants, the Nvidias and Apples of the world. But the same alternative-data engine runs across the small and micro caps too, and that's the end of the market where a high score can actually move the needle on a portfolio.
Below are the 10 top-scoring names between $50 million and $2 billion as of this morning. It's a place to start your own research, not a list to buy off.
# | Ticker | Company | AI Score | Mkt Cap | Notable signal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | SMP | 79 | $869M | P/E 10.5, 3.3% yield, earnings beat | |
2 | SBSI | 77 | $1.01B | 4.2% yield, P/E 15 | |
3 | CNXC | 73 | $1.6B | 5.3% yield, insider buying | |
4 | RZLV | 74 | $1.11B | insider buying, agentic commerce | |
5 | MNKD | 72 | $1.24B | X mentions up 2,900% | |
6 | SHIP | 72 | $353M | P/E 9.1, 3.5% yield, beat | |
7 | OCFC | 69 | $1.05B | 4.3% yield, earnings beat | |
8 | ACVA | 69 | $1.1B | hiring +7%, 70% analyst buy rating | |
9 | ATEC | 71 | $1.3B | 3 insider buys, earnings beat | |
10 | CSWC | 69 | $1.44B | ~9.9% yield, insider buying, beat |
What stands out is how unglamorous the leaderboard has become. The last time we ran this, the top was full of momentum rockets. This time it's auto parts, regional banks, and insurers trading at single-digit and low-teens earnings multiples, with Standard Motor Products and Southside Bancshares taking the top two spots. Underneath that, insiders have been buying: Concentrix, Rezolve, and Alphatec all logged recent purchases, and just outside the top 10, Kingstone and Ames National each notched four. The income angle is alive too, anchored by Capital Southwest, a BDC yielding close to 10%. Even Rezolve AI, last edition's big mover, slipped today.
When the boring names climb to the top of a speculative list, it usually says something about the market's mood, and that mix is exactly what makes small caps worth both watching and respecting. A single headline can double one of these or cut it in half. So if a name here earns a place in your portfolio, make it a small one you've vetted yourself, not a tip you took on faith.
AltIndex AI scores as of June 17. Not financial advice, and small caps are volatile and speculative. Always do your own research.
